Lover of BLUES!

How did I even make this far? I mean how could God be this insane to let a human like me get through these many years? Twenty two years aren’t any less.

When you do nothing but daydream about your beautiful future the whole day, or just keep on lying on your bed fantasizing about the weirdest things that can ever be thought of, or covering almost a season of ‘How I Met Your Mother’ (HIMYM), or watch some hair-styling tutorials which in reality you are never going to get your hands on, or stalking other people on Instagram, Facebook. And you know what the worst part is – you stalk those whom you don’t even know. I mean what other proof is needed to declare such a person as an epitome of uselessness.

This is not the story of a single day but many days. When I do nothing but waste my time, as if God has given me thirty hours a day. My life seems nothing more than a television whose remote control is in my hands. Yeah, this is the worst case I can think of. If only remote was in some wise person’s hand, I would be doing something productive; leading my life, effectively, not simply drifting along.

And then one day, after so many over-relaxing days, I finally took my laptop, opened MS-Word, laid my fingers down on the keys, and stared at that blank white screen for some good amount of time. Staring wasn’t the part of my plan, I thought. Within no time I started the ‘staring contest’ with the screen, and I won too. Hurrah! But that was the time when I lost to writing; I felt it was just a certain period when ideas came flooding to my mind, and now that period was over, so was my writing.

t3
My vision became hazy; my hands shivered; my throat became dry – all this because my creative stint was over. I could not write. It was all over.

Did you ever feel so? You must have. Maybe it came to you not this way; maybe in a harder way than this or much simpler way. But it must have.

We all come across such days which we call ‘Blue’ days, and it is really normal. Unless you give up, it is all okay. We all are entitled to such days. They are like reflection of our life, a life where we won’t be writing. Did you like those days? If yes, then go ahead living your life that way. Nobody will force you to write, as nobody ever forced you to start writing at the first place. But if you feel empty inside; hollowness spreads through your mind, body, and swallows your whole being then that’s the call, my friend. A call telling you how lifeless you would be without ‘Writing’ in your life. Take the call.

You need not be married to them to write; just being a genuine lover is enough, lover of your ideas, your words. You all will fight, you will argue, you probably would not talk to each other for days, but you will sort it out because you are committed to each other. Everything is allowed, but not infidelity. You can be a suspect, which you would be when you are enjoying with other things in your leisure, but not guilty, which will be the case if you abandon writing completely.

Show some love to your writing, give time to those ideas to blossom, and you will see a flower unfolding its petals, diffusing its fragrance all around, and attracting all the bees. Those bees being not other than your readers.

Blue days are not permanent. They are just the reminders to you of how foggy your life’s sight would turn into if you quit writing. Don’t give up if you can’t write today. Rare have this gift and luxury of writing something meaningful, every day. Take a break. Read. Watch a movie. Go to a small trip. And there you will be, back in front of your laptop. It will work. I assure you. You need not be perfect. Just don’t stop being a lover, not even to these blue days. You never know you might end up writing something about them too. chuckles

All you need to do is,

Good clarity provided to differentiate “Blues” & “Writer’s Block”. It is true for every profession. An off day doesn’t mean one is out of form. I usually complete all my unimportant work in my days of “Blues” and look forward to the new day to begin again with a bang.

Yes, I didn’t intend to write something unique this time, but something that is not unusual, something that everyone can relate to, and as you said too, I’m glad you could resonate with it.☺

    Been there,done that!
Have had blue months already despite my affair with writing being only half a year old :p
Like you said,it definitely helps watching a favorite movie or just taking a nice walk by the lake or anywhere peaceful (that’s what I usually do) but what also has helped in the past is using prompts given on the daily post, it just gives the push and helps take your mind to places amidst the fog.
Or even better reading the latest posts on the blogs I follow, sometimes they end up inspiring you just like this wonderful post did! Love the idea of being in a blissful relationship with writing! 😉

Oh yes. Reading others always inspire us, if not for writing, maybe for some other deeds, but reading always helps. Experience is saying. 🙂
It happens. Blues and writing or in that case any activity goes hand-in-hand for most of us. Already having spent months of blues, when you have just started writing – quite interesting, but understandable. 😉
Thank you so much for reading. 🙂

  5. How did I miss this? Blue ‘days’? I’ve had whole blue years before I finally started writing again. In that case, I guess I’ve been guilty. But good thing we came around or we would have never had had the pleasure of admiring each other’s work 😀😀😀😀

Seems your Reader ditched you, just like mine does to me. 😀
So yes, that probably was God’s plan to serve me with few days, while to you, a full year. See how biased. It seems he loves you more. 😉
But jokes apart, I admire your writings a lot. After all, a brilliant long write-up is what I adore the most, and you are almost always on the sender’s end of it. 🙂

      1. Oh! So your reader does that too? Thank God I’m not the only one. We should start a ‘mutual admiration society’ 😉 😉. Jokes apart, I love the way you write and for someone who’s as young as you, you’re doing fabulously! Be it your stories which have always a moral behind them, or your opinion based posts which are always though provoking or your ruminations on life…. They all leave me musing – how the heck does she do it EVERY TIME? Kudos, girl. You rock!

It’s great to see this coming from you.🙂 But now I’ve to maintain the level and shoot it up too, with time. So much pressure!🙈
I’m not so good in receiving compliments, worst when they are verbal. Behind these screens, I at least get a chance to think and write and delete and again write.😁 I cannot imagine myself accepting these compliments, this gracefully (which I hope I’m doing😛), if it was a verbal conversation. A ‘Thank you’ ftom my side would have ended the whole thing.😀

Hey! Aditi..again a wonderful post & indeed true blue words infact i feel it is very important for a creative mind to wander around unusual things of life.
This post reminded me of my present situation like i was drafting story for book & almost lost my ideas for taking up further, somehow only managed to wrote pre assigned paid articles so i took a break of almost two months and came back with an idea to restart the story again & during last two months i was doing similar stuff that you mentioned(stalking on fb,insta etc) so i can relate to it and blue days or writers block is not permanent, all it needs a break for creating a space for new ideas in mind.
And you write wonderful as always so keep writing📝👌😊

These blue-days can be as short as few hours and as long as months, as you said. But all we need to do is learn to handle them. If we need to get going, we ought to learn the ways of staying productive even in these blue-days.

Well… the last couple of days has been kind of the same for me. It started with watching episodes of ‘The Beauty and the Beast’ back to back. I kind of fell in love with the beast (Vincent Keller aka Jay Ryan) and it soon became a heady romance. Every waking minute I felt the craving to watch that damned series.

Until today… I am trying to zone back into life. I totally get your TV remote analogy. It makes perfect sense – maybe sometimes having the remote control in someone else’s hands makes one more useful. Now that I am living away from home, that someone is my work – so I am relying on that as my savior. 😀

  13. Helllo Aditi. You know what, you won! 😹 I couldn’t help clicking the follow button as soon as I finished reading this post. This is soo soo relatable. A few days back, I had the same situation. I would start by hoping that today I’ll be able to write something, I would bring that blank notebook of mine and keep staring at it, then finally I used to be upset about not being able to write again. 😢 Huh, but as you said, I felt empty inside. A feeling I never had before. Eventually everything turned alright and I am back to writing again. ☺

You write really really well. I am excited to read more from you.

    Keep shining.

I think day dreaming and human beings go hand in hand. When we write we are at our best because that is what we love

But when nothing around you is correct, or you are in one of your very bad moods it sometimes becomes difficult to romance with your love

But still we thrive and write.
    Happy writing 😊😊

We cannot control the arrival of such days, but we can definitely control our response to them, and that way we can survive them.
Yes, love has never been a smooth sail. We do face a lot of storms in between, every now and then. But then what fun it would be to have no memorable moments at the end of the journey. Isn’t it? 😉
      Keep sharing. Keep writing. 🙂

  17. So true and real. I think it’s best to embrace it. Also I sometimes fear that if I write a blog post I will somehow use up my inspiration for that and not for my next novel.

You added a very important and different dimension to this post Kristina. Even I feel the same at times, though for me it’s using an inspiration for my next blog-post in my current blog-post. 😀
Hope someday I can also say ‘I fear this idea which I had saved for my next novel, would be used in my current novel.’
But yeah, I feel we should use all the ideas that we have, in our current project. As I believe, the more ideas you spend, the more ideas you earn. 🙂
      Good day! 🙂

This is the one of the two comments, I am being noticed as a young writer, and I am really pleased, happy, and kind of on cloud nine to read them. Sole reason being, I feel I started writing late, and I myself gets quite amazed on seeing the beautiful writings by the kids of merely 17 or 18 years. But being on the receiving side of such comments, it really feels great. 😀 ❤
